Nitrate is an integral component of fertilizer for successful crop production. Unfortunately, nitrate can leach into groundwater and potentially impact both private and public drinking water supplies.

WHat we do

NWATS conducts and designs nitrate leaching studies as listed under our water quality research tab for evaluating the effectiveness of new methodologies and management practices that are tailored toward reducing the infiltration of nitrate beyond the crop root zone and into the underlying aquifer.
